Government’s “Plan B” Covid measures to be lifted

Government’s “Plan B” Covid measures to be lifted

Prime Minster Boris Johnson has announced today (19th January 2022) that from 26th January 2022, Plan B restrictions will be eased.

The current Covid-19 safety measures included in Plan B are:

  • Compulsory face coverings for most indoor public spaces, including theatres, cinemas, public transport and shops
  • Advice to work from home if possible
  • Mandatory Covid passes – showing proof of full vaccination or a recent negative test – to gain entry to nightclubs and other large events
  • Face coverings to be worn by secondary pupils in classroom

The PM said over 36 million booster jabs have been administered so far, and that the data is showing that Omicron infection cases are significantly decreasing in England. As such, the government is returning to Plan A:

  • A full return to the workplace where possible
  • Face coverings still encouraged to be worn in enclosed and busy areas
  • Easements of visits to care homes
  • Face coverings no longer mandated in classrooms from Thursday 20th January 2022
  • Lifting of Covid passes in nightclubs and other large events
  • However, there will still be a legal requirement to self-isolate if you test positive for Covid

The Prime Minister has again encouraged everyone who has not yet done so, to get their booster jab.
